Engineers have developed hydraulic quadruped robot, HyQReal at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) introduced at ICRA 2019 – the Worldwide Convention on Robotics and Automation held in Montreal (Canada).
The HyQReal is developed to help people in emergency eventualities. Makers of HyQReal the designed and tested to demonstrate its ability to pulling an airplane for greater than 10 meters.
This powerful robot has been examined at Genoa Airport, in Genoa (Italy), with the help of Piaggio Aerospace, signifying the ability of HyQReal by pulling a small passenger airplane (Piaggio P180 Avanti).
Futuristic Design
HyQReal is 1,33 m lengthy and 90 cm tall, and its weight is 130kg. The robot is protected by an aluminum roll cage and its case be manufactured from Kevlar, glass fiber and plastic.
The quadruped has custom-made ft made in particular rubber for prime traction on the ground and is supplied with a 48 Volt battery which powers 4 electrical motors related to 4 hydraulic pumps. The robotic has two onboard computer systems: one devoted to seeing the world and one to regulate.

The brand new robotic is the most recent model of the HyQ robotic collection, hydraulically powered quadruped robots developed by researchers on the IIT since 2007.
The long-term objective of the undertaking is to create the {hardware}, software program and algorithms for strong quadruped autos for tough terrain that may be tailor-made to a wide range of purposes, reminiscent of catastrophe response, agriculture, decommissioning, and inspection.
The battery (which weighs 15kg) [33 lbs] should be good for about two hours

In comparison with the earlier variations, HyQReal is upgraded with power-autonomous with onboard hydraulics, batteries, and wi-fi communication. Moreover, the robot includes a better ruggedness, reliability and energy efficiency.
HyQReal is the output of joint lab actions between IIT and Moog, which have been inaugurated in September 2016, with the objective to develop the futuristic hydraulic legged robots. The joint lab combines IIT’s expertise within the design of the hardware and software program of legged robots, with Moog’s experience in miniature, high-performance actuation options.

Moog Inc. is a worldwide designer, maker, and integrator of precision management parts and techniques. For HyQReal, Moog has developed many of the hydraulic actuation systems, together with hydraulic pump models, sensible manifolds, fluid rotary unions, and Built-in Servo Actuators (ISA).
Moog has particularly developed parts for HyQReal that can special application in the robotic market where energy and performance are essential.
IIT has led the general growth of the robotic’s {hardware} and software program. When it comes to hardware, IIT targeted on the design of the torso, legs, electronics, hydraulic hoses, fall protection, and sensing. Moreover, it coordinated the combination of the actuation subsystems developed by Moog.
When it comes to Software program, IIT tailored its locomotion management framework that it has developed over the past decade.
